Nine fashion trends for spring 2024 Some of us are busy thinking about summer vacation spots, but those of us who have a stronger sense of style are anticipating the major fashion trends of the coming season. After all, spring has officially arrived, so to speak. And the thought of all the greatest spring/summer fashion on the horizon is sure to lift our spirits on these windy, still somewhat chilly mornings, isn’t it?
Layers have been enjoyable, yes, but dressing practically doesn’t often allow for much personal style or originality. Even though you’re dressed to the nines in your finest attire of the year, it doesn’t matter if it’s hidden by the bulky winter coat you’ve been forced to wear every day for the past several months.
That’s why we’re going to be spending the next few weeks—spoiler alert—hoping that some consistent spring sunshine will appear, along with an especially stylish spring wardrobe.
When we are finally able to take off these coats, what will we all be wearing? These are the main trends in fashion for the upcoming season.
DRESSING MASC/FEM
There’s no doubting that towards the end of last year, skirts took the place of pants as the go-to item for everyday wear. However, although denim minis clearly ruled for AW23, it appears that the skirt is getting a hyper-feminine update for SS24. Think ultra-mini, ultra-sheer, flowing, or elegant; this skirt is a key component of the Masc/Fem Dressing aesthetic trend, which will be enormous come spring. Most importantly, a flirtatious vest or a charming cropped cardigan are no longer the go-to pieces to combine with these skirts. Instead, consider bulky jackets, male sweaters, and big shirts—sometimes even all three.
CASUAL BUSINESS Nine fashion trends for spring 2024
Why not take advantage of one of the greatest trends for spring a bit early this year, for those who are currently suffering with their officewear look? The SS24 workwear trend is quite easy to understand. It’s all about easy tailoring (a la H&M Rokh), and we don’t only mean a skirt that you can truly breathe in. Using wildly enormous suits, blazers that reach your thighs, and perhaps even an elasticated waist on a Friday, this business casual looks really excessive. To experiment with proportions, wear it with a slender knit or top that fits tight.
SHEER WHITES
Sheer materials have been a huge evening wear trend since a few seasons back, and none more so than on our favorite red carpet celebrities. In 2024, there will be a very particular way to wear this look, though. Whether you’re dressing for dinner, the beach, or the red carpet, there’s nothing more chic for springtime than a sheer white dress. It adds a sensual edge to immaculate white. Maybe just avoid it as a guest at a wedding.
Elevated-Rise Trousers
For a few seasons now, low-slung waists have been the talk of trend reports. However, it’s time to bring back the high-rise, and I can almost hear the millennials sigh with relief. If you follow the Loewe school of thought, only the ultra-high-rise will do. Ideal for many occasions such as work, dates, dinners, and outings, the high-rise rule may be included into your trouser collection regardless of whether you’re wearing jeans, sweatpants, or tailored pants. Purchase a stylish, classic belt to complete the ensemble.
UPGRADED ACTIVITIES
The days of saving apparel for athletic events are long gone. As a possible afterglow from the pandemic’s daily loungewear restriction, sporting basics have been making a sluggish but steady comeback into our everyday wardrobes. This is especially true for spring 2024. Oversized hooded sweatshirts have replaced flowy day dresses, monochromatic zip-up track tops are the ideal accessory to go with your favorite jeans, and cropped leggings, which are eerily evocative of 1960s pedal pushers, are a true statement when paired with heeled pumps. Comfy attire? You don’t need to inform us once more.
ASCENDING ROSES
Flowers for springtime We are aware of your thoughts. But pay attention before you go all Miranda Priestly on us. Not just any old florals, either. Roses are the only flower in fashion. On their spring/summer runways, countless designers showcased the most conventionally romantic flower in the world, but Simone Rocha, as always, took it a step further by putting actual roses into many of her gorgeous, translucent garments. It’s up to you if you go that far, but if you’re feeling particularly floral this spring, make sure everything is very pink.
